FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time has Cayalá Learning Academy (CLA) been offering its services in Guatemala?

CLA was founded in 2012 in Cardales de Cayalá, and moved to Vista Hermosa in zona 15 in 2015.

What is your student to teacher ratio?

We maintain a 5 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

I practice an organized sport. Can I attend CLA less hours per day in order to pursue my future career?

Of course!  The major benefit of homeschool programs are that they allow students to work at their own pace and at the hours that work best for your schedule.

If my son/daughter takes a holiday during December, will I need to pay that month?

No, you only pay the months that your son/daughter is active in their courses.

Can I complete the program at home?

We only sell the Apex program at a discounted price for the students who are enrolled at CLA.

The benefit of learning with us at Cayalá Learning Academy is that the students receive enhanced guidance and instructions from specialized teachers.  We provide structure and the opportunity to socialize with peers.  We develop weekly goals for each student based on their needs, send weekly reports, and provide weekly extracurricular activities on Friday.

Additionally, CLA offers college test preparation and guidance on college applications and scholarships.

When can my child start at CLA?

Because students work at their own pace, students can begin at any time of the year.

What is the process to enroll in Cayalá Learning Academy?

What is the annual cost?

Courses cost approximately $2,000 annually with Apex Virtual School, a substantial savings from the list price due to our partnership.  This amount is billed bi-annually.

Additionally, there is a monthly tuition fee for our educational services.  Please send a message below to receive information on the current monthly tuition fees.

What are the hours that students attend CLA?

The students attend the academy from Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

What are the ages of your current students and how many attend?

We have a capacity of 35 students who range in age from 12 to 18 years old.

If a student cannot attend everyday, do you offer a discount off the tuition?

In order to maintain our 5 to 1 student to teacher ratio, we cannot offer discounts for students who cannot attend every day.  The monthly payment is a fixed fee.

What middle and high school programs do you recommend?

While we work with several U.S. programs, the virtual program that we recommend is Apex Virtual School because it is accredited by AdvanceEd & NCAA, highly interactive and offers honors and AP courses that are not often available in other platforms.  Our on-site teachers personally grade all written work and, best of all, we are able to offer a substantial discount off the normal price as a result of our status as a founding member of this program.

Are the homeschooling programs accredited in the United States or Guatemala?

All of the programs that we work with are accredited in the United States.  If a student decides to transfer to a Guatemalan school, we can assist with the simple paperwork process.

How many classes will my son/daughter generally take each school year?

On average, students typically enroll in 5 or 6 courses per year: English, Math, Social Science, Science, & Elective.

What is the process to transfer high school credits from my child's current high school?

Courses taken since 9th grade (2nd Basico) will be transferred to CLA’s program.  The courses will appear on the students official high school transcript and will count towards their high school GPA (Grade Point Average).  For this process, we need an official transcript from the previous school along with course descriptions for Math & Science.
